COURSE DESCRIPTION

Runners cross Hwy 2 and re-join the Silver Moccasin Trail by heading 0.1 down a single-track connector to the Edison fire road. (This is the one section where course markers will be RED, to help avoid confusion on the approach vs. the departure from Red Box. Red for Red Box, get it?) Departing from the old course, runners turn RIGHT on this fire road and continue for 0.1 miles to the left turn onto a single-track trail down to West Fork. Narrow, scenic and rocky, the trail descends for 1.5 miles to a creek bottom, where they traverse along the bed for 1.8 miles to West Fork.

At this junction, runners cross the same fire road the RED ribbons uphill on the Gabrielino Trail. After150 yards, runners will enter a small meadow and hear water flowing – 30’ off-trail to the left, runners can access a pipe with flowing water. Returning to the trail, they will follow the Gabrielino single-track trail for 5.6 miles towards Red Box, passing left turns for the Kenyon Devore and Valley Forge Trails. Stay on the Gabrielino all the way to the aid station! About 0.75 miles from Red Box, you’ll again cross Rincon Redbox Road, and then it’s a steep climb to the aid, mile 60.3, elevation 4,170’.
