AC100 Ham Radio Volunteers and the Checkpoints (including Finish Line) |
|---|
Welcome to the AC-100 Finish Line! Reminder - Between races there may be odd things happen on this site mainly with the Live Data. That is because of experiments. New in 2008: Click here to see the map to new location. MAYBE New in 2008: Get results via phone in case you are not near the internet. Working on this, may or may not be done. Tracking the runners Besides all the race volunteers, there are many Ham operators who volunteer their time for the safety of the runners. Each checkpoint has several Hams who are responsible for sending the bib number, checkpoint number, and the times, via "packet" radio, to a remote site database. The program for that database has now improved it to the point that it generates automatic updates for the website every five minutes. The old way of doing it is still available in case it is needed as a backup. At the finish line, there is a temporary phone line with 500+ feet of wire is run through the trees, just for the weekend. I, (Kathryn Bassett) have programmed this web site to integrate those automatic updates. I enjoy hearing from you during the race - just to know you are watching. You may or may not get an answer, depending on how busy we are. I stay up all night doing this, so the emails help keep me awake. Since things are more automated now, I will have more time to answer questions in your emails. Note that I
am not the webmaster for the entire AC-100 web site, just the pages in
the finish line directory. So, if you find an error in these pages, let
me know; if in the main site pages, contact the webmaster. Below are the "New is 200x" items that are being kept as a history. New in 2006: The updating process was greatly improved. Barring anything unforeseen, the data is now being updated automatically every five minutes. New in 2007: You will see several new reports this year. Check out the various entries under Live Data to see what they are. "Last Seen", "Still on Trail", and "Drops" are suitable for printing. "Checkpoints" might be, depending on your browser and printer combination. Naturally, "Splits" is not conducive to printing because those pages show all runners, and all checkpoints, they are much larger, and you will need to scroll horizontally as well as vertically. Most of the reports also now have a column for "ETA AT NEXT CP". This takes the times of the most recent ten runners and from that, averages out a time that estimates when a runner might reasonablly be expected at the next checkpoint. We can't think of any more reports that you might want, but if you know of something, let us know. "Still on Trail" will be helpful to you later in the race. The runners who have already crossed the finish line or who dropped at some point are not included, leaving only the people still in the race. |
